Local volunteer Beryl Angel has been highly commended in the prestigious BBC Make a Difference Awards for her outstanding contributions to The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH).
The awards recognise local heroes and animals across England in various categories – they are a chance to say thank you and acknowledge those who love to make life better for others.
Beryl has been a member of the League of Friends volunteer family since 2009, taking on a number of roles across RJAH – from Helpdesk hero to Shop Trolley super star, her dedication and tireless efforts have made a lasting impact, earning her this commendation in the volunteer category.
Julia Morgan, Charity Manager, nominated Beryl for going above and beyond in her roles at RJAH. She said: “Beryl gives the best of herself every time she volunteers at the Trust – her generous and caring nature is well known amongst staff and patients and is admired by her fellow volunteers.
“Beryl takes great pride in her volunteering roles and enjoys direct patient contact – ward staff frequently mention how much they cherish her visits, as her presence brings a daily ray of sunshine.
“It’s only fitting that she’s been recognised with this commendation, as she whole heartedly deserves it for the difference she makes every single day.”
A special awards ceremony took place on September 20th where a regional judge announced Beryl’s commendation.
Victoria Sugden, Charity Director, attended the event with Beryl. She said: “It was an honour to cheer Beryl on as she collected her commendation – her commitment and passion for helping others is truly inspiring.
“We are incredibly proud of her well-deserved recognition at the BBC Make a Difference Awards.”
Beryl said: “I feel truly humbled and honoured to accept the award which I do on behalf of all the volunteers and staff at the hospital, as they all do amazing work.
“I’m tremendously proud to be a part of the Friends volunteering family and hope to continue for many years to come.
“I would urge anyone who feels they can spare a few hours a week to do voluntary work – the rewards are huge.”
